I've long maintained that Dr. Frank from the Mr. T Experience is one of the finest lyricists of our time. Add to that the fact that his band's songs are so fucking catchy that I can't sit still when I listen to them, and I submit that MTX is one of the greatest pop-punk bands to roam the Earth. For my money, they're right up there with Operation Ivy and Green Day. Let me take you through a few of my favorite Mr. T tracks, if I may. Make sure to listen to these when you can pay attention to the lyrics.

06 - Dumb Little Band
06 - Dumb Little Band
Mr. T Experience

First up is "Dumb Little Band", which brilliantly captures the life and times of a small opening band type band. They keep crankin' it out, even though nobody cares about them. This song is pretty hilarious.

06 - With My Looks And Your Brains
06 - With My Looks And Your Brains
Mr. T Experience
With My Looks And Your Brains is a great example of how Dr. Frank plays with lyrics that are already funny and playful and makes them even more goofy and amusing.

16 - You're the Only One
16 - You're the Only One
Mr. T Experience
Frank writes a lot of love songs. In fact, if you ever see them live, he'll introduce three quarters of the songs with "This is a song about a girl". You're The Only One is a great example of his cynicism and bitterness that often goes hand in hand with a pathetic vulnerability. It's all smothered in irony and again, twisty lyrics that still make you laugh, even when you feel bad for the guy. When Frank sings, "I don't wanna get screwed over by just anyone / You're the only one I wanna get screwed over by." I know exactly what he's feelin'.

02 - Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba
02 - Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba
Mr. T Experience
Another pathetic love song. I chose to include this one just because it's so fucking catchy and a great song to jump up and down to.

01 - I Wrote A Book About Rock And Roll
01 - I Wrote A Book About Rock And Roll
Mr. T Experience
This is a great commentary on the whole Musician / Music Writer relationship. Frank skewers the most obnoxious of "Them" and captures their attitude well. Awesome.

14 - Now That You Are Gone
14 - Now That You Are Gone
Mr. T Experience
Another pathetic love song... tender acoustic stylee.

03 - Knock Knock (Please Let Me In)
03 - Knock Knock (Please Let Me In)
Dr. Frank
From Dr. Frank's solo album, this track takes a bunch of played out lame knock knock jokes and turns them in to more pathetic pleading with a girl. I can't remember who plays on it with him.

And finally, a few awesome covers. First, "Unpack Your Adjectives", which you'll remember if you spent your time after school in the late 70s and early 80s in front of the TV watching commercials for Schoolhouse Rock. Next, a cover of the Primitives' "Crash". Finally, "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart", featuring the girl from The Muffs, whose name escapes me at the moment.

I think More Than Toast is the best MTX song ever.

If for no other reason than the line, "You said you love me more than toast, but less than a staple gun"
