Um... I'm going to see the TOASTERS play tonight. The Toasters. Playing TONIGHT.

Holy shit.

They're playing at Studio Seven, which I guess is near the ballpark somewhere. Yeah, they're always great live.

Right on, I'll be interesed to hear how they sound. For me, they were always hit or miss. Sometimes they totally rocked, and sometimes, they were just boring. Now that the ska-punk thing seems to have died down, I would hope that they get back to the roots.

I've been rolling back towards some of the old ska cd's recently. Strangely DBD has been a permanent fixture on my cd player for the past few weeks...

I've been listening to Reel Big Fish, which I don't even consider ska or really enjoy. It just reminds me of being 15.

I've always liked them. I guess I wouldn't really call them ska, but I wouldn't call them not ska either. Despite the fact that it makes some people cringe, I like the term ska-core. Some people get so bunched up about bands like RBF or the Bosstones and their ska influences that they forget to enjoy the music for what it is. It's like the 60's rocksteady stuff and the 80's two tone stuff is so sacred and holy that anything that tries to build on that rhythm is evil. Whatever. RBF is fun to listen to, and rocks out quite well, and their live show is always a lot of fun. If that's an insult to fans of real ska, then toooooo bad, because those real ska bands are mostly gone.

Yeah... whenever I wanna roll good ska, DBD gets in there. As far as I'm concerned, they were one of the best third wave bands there were, right up with the Toasters, Scofflaws, Hepcat, etc...

Every time I've seen the Toasters, they fucking ruled, so I'm expecting a good show. I'll post about it.
