Does anyone have a Dell Inspiron laptop? I'm thinking seriously about getting the 5100, but it seems like it might be uhhh... GIGANTIC AND FRIKKIN' HEAVY. Two of my least favorite things.

I'm sorry that I don't know much about which models are better (E is thinking about getting a laptop but I haven't done any research for her yet).

I did see this deal on an Dell Inspiron 8500 model, but I don't know if one is better than the other.

I've owned two inspirons (7000 and 8100, respectively). I currently own the 8100. I've had a superlight tiny cute ibook, and traded it in for this hurking beast of Intel Monstrosity. Its heavy and big, but not too terrible. I can easily carry it in my backpack on my ducati, or walk distances and not notice it too terribly. Think of it like carrying a couple of medium weight textbooks around. While you cannot balance it easily on your palm as you walk down the stairs like I could with the ibook, its gigantic screen and generously sized keyboard left me not missing the ibook's delicately cuddly form factor.

I must add, its dope as hell with a wireless card in the bathroom. I can get my stank on while I browse pornography. Beware, though that motherfucker gets hot on a naked lap, and can and will burn your pee pee.

I LOVE my Dell Inspiron so much so that I'm seriously due to upgrade my workstation this year and am thinking of going Dell. I got a killer deal on my 2650 a little over a year ($600 w/ rebate I think?). It's pretty heavy duty, but not like some of the other models. I personally like a little weight to my laptop though, usually means it's that much more indestructible. :)
