High Stress

So... I've been watching this show called the Amazing Race. Basically, it's sort of like It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, but on a global scale. There are a bunch of teams, and they get clues as to where in the world they need to go. Last team to get to a checkpoint is eliminated.

Ok... so I should be on this show. For one thing, I'd be totally good at it, because I am one smart fucker. And, I have a pretty good sense of direction and I'm an excellent traveller.

However, there is an aspect to this show that just irritates the fuck out of me. Here, we're sending teams of our "average Americans" out to various locations throughout the world. We're putting them under total stress and getting them lost all over the place while they're constantly in a hurry. The result is that the contestants are rude and stupid when dealing with the locals in these places, thereby intensifying the already heavy stigma that Americans have acquired (and rightfully so) for being ignorant and self-centered. This can't be good. The scene you see is:

"Hey, pal, can you tell me where the Impig Center is?"

"Yeah yeah yeah... whatever. Where IS IT? WE'RE IN A HURRY!!"

"Down the street. Turn left."

"Is it far?"

"Not far."

"Not far."

"Yeah, great. Thanks."

*Americans run off with huge stupid purple backpacks swaying*

"Stupid fucking Americans. Bomb them out of existence!"

"Yes, Prime Minister."
