A moment of silence for Robert Palmer, the cheesiest, creepiest pop singer and lover of anorexic vampire women the entertainment industry ever knew.
I can't wait to see the entertainment media try to put together some sort of tribute or appreciation for him. If I see the words, "his contribution to the world of popular music was priceless and unmatched", I'm seriously going to start shooting.
Volunteered at Vera last night for the United State of Electronica show as sound runner. It was a LOT of work, but lots of fun too. I helped out with sound check, miked up amps (lots of them), took care of little technical emergencies, and followed the sound guy around doing whatever he told me to.
USE were awesome, as usual. Despite the name, they are a killer band and I hope they do really well.
The most stressful part of the evening was when one of the girls' mikes kept cutting out. They were using every last one of our mikes, so we didn't have a spare. I ran to the back and grabbed a new cord and replaced it, on stage during a song, and got her working again. Suuuuuuuuper stressful. I had to crawl behind some amps, around a bunch of really expensive stuff, to get to where she was plugged in. Scary.
All in all, it was lots of fun, and I learned a lot. There are a million different variables and things to learn in sound engineering, but my training at Vera is free, so I'm gonna learn all I can from it. That way, when the bottom falls out of this "Internet" thing, I can just work shows full time!
