1. Once again, the Bush administration knew of impending major disaster (this time, the California fires) and chose not to act. Loss of life, and kajillions of dollars ensued.
2. The White House, having frozen all of Iraq's assets for "rebuilding", is blocking access to those funds by former POWs from the first Gulf War, who were awarded judgements to compensate for the torture they endured. Basically, the government is saying that even though a federal judge has said that these POWs deserve money from Iraq, they would rather put the money back into rebuilding Iraq (read: get the wells pumping again so we can start turning a profit).
