On Vox: Is nothing sacred??

Jesus fucking Christ on a pogo stick am I pissed off. Thanks to ruiner. and a bit of Googling, it has come to my attention that Dr. Marten's, along with their ad agency, are running four poster ads depicting Joey Ramone, Joe Strummer, Kurt Cobain, and Sid Vicious in "Heaven", wearing Docs. Says the agency:

"We wanted to communicate that Dr. Martens boots are 'made to last,' " explains writer Andrew Petch, "and we discovered that these idolized musicians wore them. Showing them still wearing their Docs in heaven dramatized the boots' durability perfectly. And, as images, they feel very iconic."

Are you fucking kidding me? Would any of those artists shill for Dr. Marten's today if they were alive?? I guess maybe, but maybe not. There's no way of knowing, because they're DEAD... and using someone's image to sell something when they have no say in the matter because they're DEAD is seriously, very very seriously, fucked up.

Now, I love me some Docs, and I have since I was 13, but if they go through with running these ads, then I've bought my last pair. There's no way I can condone pissing on the memory of four people who I idolize. Well, three who I idolize and one who I just find kind of amusing.

I'm not going to pollute my blog with the offending ads... I just can't bring myself to display them here, but if you need to see them, then go here.
