Dammit. The Killers are coming. I soooooo want to see the Killers, but what I don't want to fucking do is pay $35 to see them play like a 30 minute set a "107.7 The End presents Deck the Ball" with like 7 other bands and 15 minute introductions by the wacky morning DJ. Fuck that. Why can't they just play a headlining show at the Crocodile or something? I didn't see them last time, because they played at Bumbershoot.

I'm getting sick of my favorite bands gouging me for short sets. I'm still mad at Cake for the "Unlimited Sunshine" tour of a year or so ago. $30 to sit through sets by some country & western "legend", Cheap Trick, and the Detroit Cobras, only to get a short and seriously crappy set by Cake. Well, the country & western guy was boring as all hell. Cheap Trick, while still a respectable band, was just annoying. They brought out all their large arena firepower for the Showbox, playing at ear-bleeding levels and blinding the audience with stage lighthing. Sometimes that can be fun, but not when it's a bunch of 55 year olds who still think they're hip and not when you're there to see a band like Cake. The Detroit Cobras were super pissed off about something, so they played a pretty short set with zero crowd interaction and less than zero enthusiasm. Cake's set was mediocre at best - the worst I've ever seen them, and they wasted a good amount of my patience by bringing the country guy out, kissing his ass for a while and having him sing with them.

Now Cake's coming back this week, headlining a regular show at the Moore, and tickets are a ridiculous $28. Sorry, Cake. You're awesome, but I haven't forgiven you enough to shell out that much to see you this time around. Punks.

Anyway, I guess I went off on a tangent there about Cake. The point is, I'm not really interested in the other bands at the End thing (maybe Franz Ferdinand... maybe...) enough to pay that much and hang out with 15,000 frat boys, even if it is to see my favorite new band. Guess I'll try to catch them next time, provided they decide to get off the festival scene and play a decent show.

they did headline at the croc a while ago - great show.

the whole package tour circuit can bite me. a couple of times, in my younger days, i sucked it up adn paid a million dollars to sit through mostly bands i didn't like in order to catch iggy pop or rev ho or something, and it was never ever worth it.

That was probably before I'd heard them. I'm slow when it comes to new stuff, what with the whole hating every single station on the radio thing.

See, I had exactly the opposite problem with that tour. I wanted to see Cheap Trick and had no desire to sit through any of Cake. Last time I saw Cheap Trick, it was an outdoor show and their stage antics went over well...I bet you're probably right that it'd be too much for a smaller space.

What I'm saying is, Cheap Trick rocks and Cake sucks. Suckah. ;)

Yeah... the stage show was way too much for the club it was in. I saw GWAR at the same club a couple months later and THEY weren't as loud and annoying as Cheap Trick.

Cheap Trick is pretty much played out for me. Of the few songs of theirs I like, I've heard them so many damn times that seeing them play them live exactly as they're recorded wasn't much of a treat. Plus, they just love themselves way too much for me to respect them.

So when you saw that tour, you didn't really have to sit through any of Cake, right? You could just see Cheap Trick and then leave. I was stuck waiting through their set.

The Killers Rool. I shoved them into my CD player first thing this morning. Now I'm going to have to see if they are coming here. I bet they are.

By the way, Cake is playing here too, and they are also charging some stupid $30-35 charge. They are cool, but like you, the last time I saw them, they were just about OK. For $30. I think I'll just listen to their new album that I doug'ed instead.

The Killers are playing down there (www.thekillersmusic.com) but it's also at a festival type thing.

Yeah... Cake's playing here for $28 and I'm not going. They can shove it.

Instead, Susie and I are gonna go see Mitch Hedberg and Stephen Lynch next month. Awww yeah.

Awww damn! Mitch Hedberg? I'mma check and see if he's coming down here. Hey, wasn't there some sort of debacle the last time he was up there... or was that someone else?

I was there too, remember? :) It was one of their better shows I've seen, I agree.
