Just turn it on, it's a soul machine...

Alright Seattle people. Now that the weekend's over, you're probably trying to figure out what to do with these miserable four days leading up to the dreaded St. Valentine's Day. Hint: Don't bother planning your 1930's style gang-land massacre for that day. It's already been done.

Well, I can't help you with Monday through Wednesday, but I will tell you that Thursday night is where it's at. The event is Get Smart! at the Sit and Spin and yours truly is first at the wheels, er - keyboard and mouse, of steel, playing the best fucking soul I could leech off the internet. I go on at 8, and will probably get the hook between 9:30 and 10:30, so show up early! I guarantee you ain't gonna be able to sit your wild ass down. Also on the bill are two other DJs (soul and electronica, I think), a band, and a belly dancer. That's right. Belly dancer.

Speaking of the sweet soul music, I was doing some research this morning on JJ Jackson ("But It's Alright") because I read that there's a guy by the same name who has a soul food restaurant in the central district. I thought it'd be super fucking cool if it was the same guy, but I think it probably isn't. Anyway, whilst looking for his bio, I found these articles from the Beg, Scream, and Shout box set that you should read, because they're awesome:

Come one, come all. You gonna have a ball.

JJ Jackson's cafe
Hey man, JJ Jackson's cafe is called Nellie's Place, on 14th and Jefferson. I don't think it's the same JJ Jackson, but it's still a heck of a good place for the soul food. Coincidentally, there's a story about him today in the P.I., that's what reminded me.

Yep... that's the article I was reading. Legendary soul artist or not, I'd definitely like to get some of that chicken. Perhaps one of your weekend 80 mile motorcycle trips to the CD is in order.

Say... isn't it about time for a trip outta Georgetown for you on say, Thursday?

Crap, I have a class that will probably end just as you are getting the boot. I will possibly stop by anyway.

Ah bugger... Well... I'm hoping to do well and be invited back next month or some time in the future, so don't sweat it too much.
